Atlanta United to contend with four absences for Concacaf Champions League second leg

Atlanta United will remain shorthanded for their Round of 16 second leg against Motagua in Concacaf Champions League action on Tuesday night (8 pm ET | FS1, FOX Sports App in US; TUDN, TSN.ca/TSN App in Canada) at Fifth Third Bank Stadium, according to various reports.

On the backline, left backs George Bello (concussion) and Edgar Castillo (ribs) are both out, as is 2019 MLS Best XI center back Miles Robinson. Head coach Frank de Boer will also have to contend with the absence of midfielder Matheus Rossetto, who's again out due to work permit issues.

Those four players all missed Atlanta’s CCL first leg, a 1-1 draw in Honduras that placed the Five Stripes in the driver’s seat based on an away goal scored by Josef Martinez. The winner will advance to face either Comunicaciones or Club America in the quarterfinals, though Atlanta’s path ahead just encountered another degree of difficulty.

With a less-than-full-strength defense in the first leg, de Boer had to move midfielder Mo Adams to right back. In fact, Atlanta faced Motagua last week with only six available substitutes instead of the allotted seven.
