TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

Argentinean attacker Favio Alvarez was officially announced as a new signing of Mexican club Pumas UNAM on Monday, in the wake of his 2019 loan stint with the LA Galaxy.

Arriving on a season-long loan from Atletico Tucuman in May, the 26-year-old playmaker made 18 regular-season appearances for the Galaxy, scoring three goals and registering five assists.

Despite those flashes of quality, LA elected not to exercise their option to buy him via a permanent transfer at season’s end, perhaps due to a lofty annual salary reported to be north of $500,000 according to MLS Players Union documents, leading to his Liga MX move.

Alvarez is the second player to move from MLS to Pumas this winter, with Real Salt Lake Homegrown Bofo Saucedo taking the same path to the Mexico City outfit.
