TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Reports
If you thought the day's Zlatan Ibrahimovic news items would revolve around what he actually does on the pitch when his LA Galaxy visit Real Salt Lake in a Western Conference matchup with hefty implications in the race for the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs (9:30 pm ET | TV & streaming info), you're unfortunately mistaken (at least until tonight).
No, the strapping Swedish superstar is splashed across headlines across the world Wednesday morning because of his alleged desire to leave LA for Buenos Aires in the coming months, in order to join Argentine superclub Boca Juniors. It would be a shocking move, given that the Galaxy have lately been luring Boca figures north rather than the reverse, with head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto and star attacker Cristian Pavon having moved stateside this year.
While Ibra to Boca might sound unlikely, it wouldn't be without precedent: Italian icon Daniele De Rossi surprised many earlier this year when he left AS Roma, the only club he'd known in his 18-year professional career, to experience the passion and tradition of the Buenos Aires giants at age 36.
There's just one problem: Zlatan's agent, the high-powered global heavyweight Mino Raiola, soon took to Twitter to emphatically dismiss the idea that he'd shopped his famous client to Boca:
I have never offered Ibrahimovic to Boca Juniors or to anybody else. Total #fakenews— Mino Raiola (@MinoRaiola) September 25, 2019
