Piatti's laser gives Montreal Impact early Canadian Championship lead

Ignacio Piatti - fist pump - Canadian Championship

Injuries have hindered Montreal Impact talisman Ignacio Piatti's MLS campaign, but he's been healthy enough — and lethal enough — during the Canadian Championship windows to do some serious damage.

It continued in Leg 1 of Montreal's meeting in the final against Toronto FC. Afforded enough time and space 25 yards from goal, Piatti unleashed this 17th-minute belter that gave Alex Bono no chance as it sailed into the top left corner.

The goal was Piatti's fourth in Montreal's current Canadian Championship run, good enough for the lead in the competition. That's one goal more than the 34-year-old Argentine has in an unusual MLS campaign, in which he's been limited to nine appearances (seven starts).

As of halftime, Piatti's goal was the only tally in the first game of the two-leg, total-goals series to decide Canada's representative in the 2020 Concacaf Champions League.
