TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

It's a good time to be a Uruguayan in Major League Soccer, with Nicolas Lodeiro, Diego Polenta and Diego Rossi shining this season and LAFC making waves with a reported multi-million-dollar transfer deal for rising La Celeste star Brian Rodriguez last week.

Now an even bigger name from the South American nation has been linked to MLS.

Uruguayan journalist and former player Alvaro Izquierdo reported on Sunday that Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani will sign with Inter Miami when his current PSG contract expires at the end of their 2019/20 season, and join the 2020 expansion side next June.

Cavani, who turns 33 in February, is one of the most accomplished and complete No. 9s in the world, scoring at a rapid clip in Serie A with Palermo and Napoli before moving to PSG in 2013 and playing an instrumental role in the Parisian club's subsequent dominance of Ligue 1. He's starred for Uruguay in the past three FIFA World Cups and was the leading scorer in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying during the 2018 cycle.

Miami announced their first three signings over the past two weeks, but have yet to announce a superstar acquisition despite myriad media reports connecting them to a range of household names.
