Week 1 of MLS Fantasy provided a glimpse of which players could have a big impact in 2020. Some of the regular contributors delivered as expected, but we also saw some new faces and players in new places getting acclimated to their new environments. Goalkeepers
Jesse Gonzalez posted a clean sheet in his 2020 opener, racking up nine fantasy points in the process. He’s in a good spot to follow that up with another strong showing, especially if Montreal rest some of their key contributors with one eye on their CCL game Tuesday.

Reto Ziegler comes with immense upside given his role on set pieces. He stood over all three corner kicks in Week 1, and if last season is any indication, he’s the preferred penalty kick taker for FC Dallas, as well. That makes for a high ceiling given his ability to also earn shutout and defensive bonus points.

Alejandro Pozuelo delivered a goal in Toronto’s season opener, and up next is a New York City FC side that will be without one of their key center backs. Additionally, NYCFC could field a weakened lineup with the focus on Wednesday’s CCL quarterfinal, which would in turn open up even more opportunities for Pozuelo to do some damage.

Forwards
Carlos Vela picked up where he left off after last season’s record-breaking campaign, scoring a stunning goal to lead LAFC to victory in Week 1. There’s reason for hesitation considering LAFC play in the last game of the week and have a CCL quarterfinal to play on Thursday, but his potential is worth the risk to ensure you’re not left without him if he delivers a massive point haul.
