Major League Soccer announced on Wednesday that Grammy Award-Winning, multi-platinum singer/songwriter, actor, and author, Ashanti, will perform the National Anthem at the 2018 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target.
The game, which will be televised on ESPN, UniMás, TSN and TVA Sports, is set for 8 pm ET on Aug. 1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta as the best of MLS take on Serie A giants Juventus.
Ashanti burst onto the music scene with her hit, self-titled debut album “Ashanti.” It landed the No. 1 spot on both the Billboard Top 200 and R&B album charts, selling over 500,000 copies in its first week which put her in the Guinness Book of World Records. Ashanti made Billboard history by having her first three chart entries land in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time and holding the No. 1 and No. 2 spots on the charts simultaneously. Ashanti became the first female to accomplish this feat, and second artist ever, previously only attained by the Beatles.
Most recently, Ashanti and Ja Rule sold out three U.S. tours, one European Tour and one Australia/New Zealand Tour in 2016/2017, with the duo touring once again in the USA now in 2018. Ashanti owns her record label, Written Entertainment, and released her new single “Say Less”, produced by DJ Mustard and featuring Ty Dolla $ign, in April. Her film credits include "Coach Carter", "John Tucker Must Die", "Resident Evil Extinction", and "Mothers & Daughters", which she Executive Produced. She is also the executive producer on her new musical film "Stuck" to be released Oct. 26.
