It’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup time for Major League Soccer teams and all 20 United States-based teams are in Fourth Round action on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Here’s a look at Tuesday’s three matches:
Louisville City FC vs. New England Revolution (7 pm ET)
The New England Revolution captured the U.S. Open Cup title in 2007 and were twice runners-up — in 2001 and 2016. A year ago, they lost to the New York Red Bulls, 1-0, in the Quarterfinals.
After knocking off the Long Island Rough Riders, 5-0, in the Second Round, Louisville City FC defeated Saint Louis FC, 1-0, in the King’s Cup derby with defender Sean Totsch scoring the lone goal in the 58th minute.
In the defending USL champions’ only other Open Cup match against an MLS team, they took the Chicago Fire to extra-time in 2015 before falling, 1-0.
D.C. United vs. North Carolina FC (7 pm ET)
Three-time winners of the U.S. Open Cup (1996, 2008, 2013), D.C. United return to Maryland SoccerPlex where they had a spirited 4-1 win over Christos FC in the Fourth Round last year before they bowing out to the Revs in the Round of 16.
Austin da Luz, a former midfielder for the New York Red Bulls and D.C. United, had a goal and two assists as North Carolina FC cruised to a 4-1 win over Ocean City Nor’Easters in the Third Round. That came after a 3-0 victory over Lansdowne Bhoys FC in the Second Round.
This is the first meeting between the clubs. North Carolina FC have had previous success against MLS competition under their previous name, the Carolina RailHawks, defeating the LA Galaxy in three consecutive U.S. Open Cup competitions from 2012-14.
Philadelphia Union vs. Richmond Kickers (7 pm ET)
Back-to-back U.S. Open Cup finalists in 2014 and 2015, the Philadelphia Union face the Richmond Kickers for the first time Tuesday night at Talen Energy Stadium. In the Fourth Round last year, the Union defeated Harrisburg City Islanders, 3-1, in Chester before an ouster on penalty kicks by the Red Bulls in the Round of 16.
After needed penalty kicks to knock off Reading United AC in the Second Round, the Richmond Kickers defeated Penn FC, 3-2, in the Third Round as Luiz Fernando struck for a brace inside 22 minutes and Heviel Cordoves netted the late winner.
Richmond, which won the tournament in 1995, defeated Columbus Crew SC and Sporting Kansas City to reach the 2011 Semifinals.
