LA Galaxy's Sebastian Lletget to miss 4-6 months due to foot injury

The LA Galaxy and US national team were both dealt a major blow on Tuesday, when the Galaxy announced that midfielder Sebastian Lletget will miss the next 4-6 months due to a Lisfranc injury suffered in the USMNT’s 6-0 win against Honduras at Avaya Stadium on Friday.

It was initially thought that Lletget’s injury was a left foot sprain, but additional tests revealed that it was a Lisfranc fracture. Lletget will undergo surgery to repair the injury next week after his swelling subsides. He tweeted the following message after the news broke:

Lletget, 24, made his World Cup qualifying debut on Friday, starting and scoring the US’s opener in the fifth minute. Unfortunately, his night didn’t last much longer, suffering his injury on an Ever Alvarado tackle in the 14th minute before being subbed off four minutes later.

Lletget played every minute of LA’s first three matches this year, and recorded one goal and eight assists in 31 regular season appearances for the Galaxy in 2016.

After having last weekend off, LA will return to action on Saturday, when they’ll take on the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place (10 pm ET | MLS LIVE in the US, TSN1 in Canada). The US will play another World Cup qualifier on Tuesday at Panama (10 pm ET | beIN SPORTS, Telemundo, NBC Universo).
