Columbus Crew SC rookie Rodrigo Saravia called to Guatemalan national team

There’s been no shortage of good news for Columbus Crew SC midfielder Rodrigo Saravia this week.

The 19th overall pick in last month’s SuperDraft, Saravia signed his first professional contract on Thursday, then received a call to the Guatemalan national team on Friday. The Florida Gulf Coast University product, who has been called to Guatemala’s senior team once before, will join Los Chapines for next Wednesday’s friendly against Honduras in Guatemala City.

Saravia could represent his country at Crew SC’s home field later this year, as Guatemala are set to face the US in a World Cup Qualifier at MAPFRE Stadium on March 29.
