MLS Fantasy Boss: Bet on Benny Feilhaber, dive in with Didier Drogba and much more

TRANSFER DEADLINE: Wednesday, 10 pm ET

After being spoiled by a week between game rounds and unlimited transfers, we’re back to business as usual in MLS Fantasy.

This round, two teams have a Double Game Week and nobody is on a bye. Unfortunately, what we don’t have is a lot of prep time, because it’s already time to set our lineups again. So don’t blink or you’ll miss the start of Round 28. Here’s my list of players worth taking a look at...

Goalkeepers

DGW Pick
: If you have not already set up your team to have a DGW 'keeper, then I think you should consider this trade because there are several good options that will allow you to setup a rotation to maximize your DGW opportunities. Even with two away games, my top pick this round is
Tim Melia
(SKC $4.9), because both Portland and Orlando are ranked in the bottom third of the league when it comes to scoring at home.

SGW Option: If you have decided that the DGW options are just too risky, then David Ousted (VAN $5.8) is a good bet for a clean sheet. Vancouver host Colorado this round and the Rapids have been one of the worst teams at scoring on the road. The chances are good that the Whitecaps could add another win to their improving home record.

Defenders

MLS Fantasy Boss: Bet on Benny Feilhaber, dive in with Didier Drogba and much more -

Bull Market
: Even without having a DGW,
Matt Miazga
(NY $6.1) should still be on your shortlist of target defenders. He’s no longer one of the cheapest options, but his CBI numbers are still consistent and a schedule made up of home games and a DGW make him well worth his price.

DGW Gamble: If you want to add a DGW player to your roster, then consider rolling the dice on Bobby Burling ($4.7). While he has the ability to generate bonus points, there is a chance he will not play both games, once Axel Sjoberg has served his suspension. Still, he’s sure to see play time in game one and at just $4.7 million, I think he’s worth the risk.

OOP Differential: Some of the most sought-after players in Fantasy MLS are out-of-position defenders and that’s just what you get with Kellyn Acosta (DAL $6.3). His scoring and assisting slowed down for a while, but he found the scoresheet again last round and with NYCFC having one of the worst defenses in the league, there’s a chance that we could get more.

Midfielders

MLS Fantasy Boss: Bet on Benny Feilhaber, dive in with Didier Drogba and much more -

DGW King
: After a red-card suspension and an unproductive game, some managers may be wondering if
Benny Feilhaber
(SKC) is still worth his $10.4 price tag. A quick look back at his previous points makes me answer with a resounding YES! Benny has rarely gone more than two games without scoring at least 5-8 points and a DGW only multiplies his chances for a big return.

Offensive Creator: If you want to start bringing some Red Bulls players back into your team, then be sure to grab Sacha Kljestan ($10.1). For the past nine weeks, Kljestan has been at the head of the Red Bull offense and has consistently shown his ability to put points on the board. His ability to score and assist also gives him a higher point ceiling for the upcoming DGW next round.

Differential Glimmer: If you’re looking to get in on the ground floor of returning form, then take a risk on Ignacio Piatti (MTL $104). After missing a couple of weeks, Piatti has returned and starting building a partnership with Didier Drogba. If they continue to link up, they may even be able to crack the LA Galaxy’s tough home defense this week.

Forwards

Hat Trick Hero: It’s customary to assume that a new player will take some time to warm up to MLS, but Drogba (MTL $10.2) is not the usual new player. He scored a shocking three goals against Chicago last round, but will face a harder challenge this week. However, with the upcoming series of DGWs that the Impact have, I can’t blame anyone for chasing the points right now.

DGW Pick: If you want to add a DGW player to your frontline, then consider getting Krisztian Nemeth (SKC $8.4). Some question if he will be ready to play after returning from international duty, but he’s proven that he does not need to a full 90 to score and his production is a steal for a player under $10 million.

With so little time left in the season, there is no reason not to go big when setting up your team, and these are the players I think will help you bridge the gap between last week’s unlimited transfers and the coming big DGW.
