GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Twenty-year-old striker Herbert Cojulun has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with Guatemalan first-division outfit Xelajú, according to a statement released by the player’s agent.
The forward had a standout high school career at Brookland-Cayce in South Carolina and was one of the six Seattle Sounders FC finalists of Sueño MLS 2012. Cojulun, a Casey, S.C., resident, was born in Guatemala and is eligible to represent Honduras, Guatemala and the United States at international level, according to the statement.
Xelajú have been champions of Guatemala’s first division five times and finished third in last season’s Clausura 2014 regular season, before losing at the semifinal stage of the playoff.
Los Super Chivos are based in the city of Quetzaltenango and made waves outside of Guatemala in the CONCACAF Champions League in 2012, when they knocked Mexican club Chivas out at the group stage of the competition (pictured above).
