Tim Howard was already a US legend. It doesn't mean he won't celebrate 100 caps.
The former MLS goalkeeper reached the century mark in appearances in the USA's 2-1 win over Nigeria in Jacksonville, Florida. He nearly had a shutout, but Nigeria's Victor Moses converted on a late penalty kick.
"That's a huge milestone for any player and it's certainly not lost on me," Howard said at media day in New York City last week. "Hopefully when it comes I'l be able to enjoy it with my kids and put it behind me. But it's something that's special and every player who hits 100 will tell you it's probably the biggest moment in our career."
Howard becomes the 15th player in US national team history to hit the 100-cap milestone and he currently ranks 13th all-time in appearances.
If he appears in all three World Cup group stage matches, he'll also break Kasey Keller's record for most games by a goalkeeper. Keller is at 102 caps from 1990 to 2007. Howard already has the all-time record with 55 wins in goal (55-28-15).
