American Exports: Stuart Holden set for return to Bolton reserve squad as ACL recovery continues

AMSTERDAM – Bolton midfield ace Stuart Holden is set for a return to the reserve team in the club’s Under-21 Premier League home clash with nearby rivals Everton on Monday night.

Manager Dougie Freedman said early this month that he expected Holden back to action with the second team by late March, putting the US international happily ahead of schedule.

When contacted by MLSsoccer.com, the team declined to say whether Holden would be subject to either a target or limit for minutes played against the Everton U-21s.

Holden, 28, has not played since suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during last July's CONCACAF Gold Cup final victory against Panama, but he briefly trained with the US national team in January.

Since winning Bolton's Player of the Season award in the spring of 2011, knee injuries have limited Holden to just four first-team appearances with the club.
