American Exports: Barnsley's Brek Shea set to return this week from stomach virus

AMSTERDAM – Barnsley says winger Brek Shea is expected back in Championship action this week after missing their last game-and-a-half due to a stomach bug.

The US World Cup hopeful, on loan through the end of the season from top-flight Stoke City, left feeling ill at halftime of a Feb. 8 draw with Ipswich Town. Shea subsequently missed out on Saturday's road draw with Doncaster, but is due to return in one of two league contests over the next five days.

"It is nothing really bad," Tykes press officer Mark Stokes told MLSsoccer.com on Monday. "It's pretty tough when you are not able to train. But I'd anticipate he will be back either tomorrow night at Wigan or this weekend [at home] against Millwall."

Since initially arriving on loan in January, Shea has started all five of his league matches for Barnsley, helping the relegation fighters climb out of the basement with an even 1-1-3 record in those games. Still next-to-last, they could potentially reach the safety zone with a pair of wins this week.
