Fulham FC confirm Seattle Sounders' Clint Dempsey to undergo physical ahead of potential loan move

Turns out Clint Dempsey's time with Fulham FC might not quite be history. Not with Brazil 2014 looming in just six months, and the EPL club desperate for reinforcements in their battle against relegation.

On Friday, the London club, where Dempsey spend nearly six years after transferring from the New England Revolution in 2007, confirmed the Seattle Sounders DP was set to undergo a medical with an eye toward a loan move for the months of January and February.

Head coach René Meulensteen is tasked with leading the Cottagers out of the bottom three, and reacquiring Fulham's all-time leading Premier League scorer -- even if just for eight games -- certainly helps with that aim.

“He’s having a medical and we’re looking into that. It would be a real boost for us. Hopefully that will all work out," Meulensteen said.

“Clint spent so many years playing in the Premier League and we all know where his strengths are. He can come in from the left or play as a second striker depending on who you’re playing against. It speaks volumes for him that he wants to come back here. Initially it’s for January and February.”

The 30-year-old played in nine regular-season games this season for the Sounders, scoring once in six starts. He started all three playoff games, as Seattle lost in the Western Conference semifinals to archrival Portland.

Dempsey completed a much-discussed transfer from Fulham to Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the 2012 season before joining Seattle in August of this year. He's been widely linked with a loan move back to the EPL in order to prepare for the World Cup.
