AMSTERDAM – A number of Americans exports clocked in across the pond on Sunday, with Josh Gatt on at the break to help Molde FK repeat as Norwegian champions with a 1-0 victory over Steve Clark's Hønefoss.
Shortly after Gatt drew a good save out the away netminder in the 52nd minute of a scoreless game, teammate Daniel Chima bagged the goal to clinch Molde's second league crown in their club history with a game to spare.
Meanwhile, Mikkel Diskerud and slumping Rosenborg lost 1-0 at home to relegation fighters Fredrikstad. The US midfielder created his side's best chance to no avail near halftime as the Troll Kids dropped their fourth straight game across all competitions.
In Belgium's Jupiler League, Sacha Kljestan netted the home side's fourth in a 6-1 derby rout of nemesis Club Brugge.
Having already gone close early, the midfielder raided the box to smash home a pinpoint Milan Jovanović cross in the 54th minute for his first league strike since March. The victory, Anderlecht's fourth in a row, restored the holders to the summit.
Premier League action saw the Tottenham Hotspur duo of Clint Dempsey and Brad Friedel were on the wrong end of a 2-1 collapse loss at Manchester City.
The Spurs goaltender notched three saves, while Dempsey put in a relatively quiet full shift. The visitors lost for the third time in four, slipping to seventh place.
Heading to the Bundesliga, Steve Cherundolo worked 87 minutes as Hannover 96 clawed back from two down for a 4-2 triumph at Stuttgart. The Reds hit four times inside of a 16-minute span of the second half to hold firm in sixth.
Down south in Serie A, Michael Bradley was among the few AS Roma players to perform solidly in a 3-2 derby defeat to city rivals Lazio.
The US midfielder picked up a yellow card near the half-hour of a contest that saw each side down a man by the end. Roma stayed in sixth despite falling for the third time in their last four games.
Over in Denmark, Clarence Goodson and Brøndby snapped a 12-game win drought in Superliga play, climbing out of the basement with a 2-1 rally win at Silkeborg. The Lads from the Western Outskirts scored twice in the final dozen minutes to doom their guests to last place.
Conor O'Brien and SønderjyskE suffered the indignity of a 5-0 whopping at Odense BK. Losers of four of their last five, the visitors remained in ninth place.
Finally, in Austria, halftime entrant Terrence Boyd fired his best chance just wide as Rapid Vienna dropped a galling 2-0 home decision to RZ Pellets WAC. With just one win their last five, the Green-Whites suddenly find themselves nine points off the top.
