Slowly but surely, the playoff race in the tight Eastern Conference is shaking out.
The latest update sees the Chicago Fire clinch a berth, thanks to Sunday's 1-1 draw between Columbus and Sporting KC. The Fire are on 56 points, while the sixth-place Crew are on 49 with just two games left. Thus, the Fire are guaranteed a top five finish at worst.
The Crew remain one point back of fifth-place Houston. New York are in fourth place with 53 points, while D.C. are third on 54.
Sporting KC, who clinched a spot last week, are still top of the East with 59 points. All six teams currently in the playoff picture have two games remaining in the MLS regular season.
