International Roundup: How the MLS contingent fared

As the FIFA international fixtures wind down and players return to their club teams, the matches certainly left little to be desired.

In North America, the United States won their first-ever match vs. El Tri on Mexican soil with a 1-0 win. Michael Orozco Fiscal – who plays his club ball in Mexico for San Luis – found the winner in the 80th minute when a Terrence Boyd backheel set him up just feet from the goal line. A total of four MLS players lined up for the Red, White and Blue, with Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake) manning the center of the park and Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy) starting in attack. Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City) and Brek Shea (FC Dallas) – who set up the game-winner with his run down the left flank – came in as second-half substitutes.

In Lauderhill, Fla., an MLS-filled Canadian squad downed Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 behind goals from Tosaint Ricketts and Will Johnson (Real Salt Lake), who converted from the penalty spot in the 86th minute. Regulars Ante Jazic (Chivas USA) and Andre Hainault (Houston Dynamo) both started in defense for the Canucks, and they were joined on the backline by youngster Doneil Henry (Toronto FC). Patrice Bernier (Montreal Impact), Julian de Guzman (FC Dallas) and Johnson got their starting XI call in midfield, as did Terry Dunfield (Toronto FC) in his return to the team. Vancouver Whitecaps youngster Russell Teibert, who made his first career appearance for Canada's senior team, replaced Bernier in the 62nd minute.

For T&T, Carlyle Mitchell (Vancouver Whitecaps) played the full 90 minutes on defense, while Keon Daniel (Philadelphia Union) started and went the distance in midfield.
Here's a look at how the rest of the MLS contingent did on the international stage:
Panama (2-0 L to Portugal)

Gabriel Gómez (Philadelphia Union): Midfielder started against a Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portuguese side, but he saw his night come to an early end when he was red-carded in the 49th minute.
Carlos Rodríguez (FC Dallas): Young defender got the last 19 minutes in his fifth senior national team appearance.

Estonia (1-0 W over Poland)

Joel Lindpere (New York Red Bulls): Started before being subbed off for Tarmo Kink in the 56th minute. Estonia found the winner in the 90th minute when second-half substitute Konstantin Vassiljev buried the game's only goal.

Puerto Rico (2-1 L to Spain)

Bill Gaudette (New York Red Bulls): Started in net for the Puerto Ricans against the world champions and survived an absolute onslaught. The Spaniards had 33 shots (10 on goal), and the New York goalkeeper parried away eight of them to earn Puerto Rico a more-than-respectable result, falling only 2-1.
Marc Cintron (Providence College): Although not an MLSer, it's worth giving a shout-out to this senior at Providence College and native of New Jersey. The striker — who's on the Hermann Trophy watch list — netted Puerto Rico's goal.

Costa Rica (1-0 L to Peru)

Roy Miller (New York Red Bulls): Started the game in defense for Los Ticos although they fell behind early on a seventh-minute goal from Peruvian Luis Ramírez. Was replaced by Johnny Acosta in the 59th minute.
Álvaro Saborío (Real Salt Lake): Started and went the full 90.

El Salvador (2-0 L to Jamaica)

Steve Purdy (Portland Timbers): Started and played the full 90 in defense.

Jamaica (2-0 W over El Salvador)

Omar Cummings (Colorado Rapids): Started at forward and played 54 minutes before being replaced by Darren Mattocks.
Darren Mattocks (Vancouver Whitecaps): Came off the bench in the 54th minute to replace Cummings and earn his first cap with the Reggae Boyz.
Jermaine Taylor (Houston Dynamo): Started the game in defense and played the full 90 to help earn the shutout.
Je-Vaughn Watson (Houston Dynamo): Started the game in central midfield and played 76 minutes before being replaced by Dane Richards.
Dane Richards (Vancouver Whitecaps): One of three pairs of MLS teammates to feature for Jamaica, came on in the 76th minute to finish out the match in the midfield.
Lovel Palmer (Portland Timbers): Started and played the full 90 minutes in midfield.
Shavar Thomas (Montreal Impact): Started and played the full 90 minutes in defense.
Dicoy Williams (Toronto FC): Along the backline with Taylor and Thomas, Williams started and anchored the center of defense for the full 90.
Ryan Johnson (Toronto FC): Started and played the full 90 minutes at forward.

Honduras (2-0 W over Boca Juniors)

Jerry Bengtson (New England Revolution): Scored the opener in the 23rd minute for Los Catrachos in their victory over the Argentinian club giants.
Marvin Chávez (San Jose Earthquakes): Scored the game-sealing goal in the 89th minute to put the game out of reach.
Mario Martínez (Seattle Sounders): Midfielder set up both Honduran goals.
Víctor Bernárdez (San Jose Earthquakes): Started in his customary spot in central defense.
Boniek García (Houston Dynamo): Started in the midfield.
Roger Espinoza (Sporting Kansas City): Suffered a "muscular overload" during training and did not feature for Honduras.
