Roma, other Euro clubs interested in Galaxy's Gonzalez

Omar Gonzalez is currently at the US national team's January training camp.

AMSTERDAM — Serie A power AS Roma are among a small crowd of potential European suitors casting a watchful eye over LA Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez, MLSsoccer.com has learned.

The 22-year-old Best XI selection has yet to receive any offers, but various sources have confirmed widespread preliminary interest in his services.

Sudden buy-American shoppers Roma have now added him to their project list of potential transfer targets, even if Gonzalez would be very unlikely to consider a summer move. Meanwhile, a Bundesliga club and two Ligue 1 sides have also been spying the Dallas native.

"There is interest in Europe in Omar," Gonzalez agent Lyle Yorks confirmed to MLSsoccer.com. "Any club that's interested would obviously need to approach MLS. He enjoys playing for Bruce [Arena] and the Galaxy, but you always want to look at opportunities to see if there's a win-win scenario."

Gonzalez, who has another season on his contract after this one, has started 70 of 75 regular-season matches since joining the Galaxy. The 2009 MLS Rookie of the Year has earned two US caps.

The Galaxy declined to comment on the report.
