Poll: Altidore/Buddle pairing tops among voters

MLSsoccer.com voters want to see the pairing of Jozy Altidore (left) and Edson Buddle up top against England.

Jozy Altidore needs help up top against England, and the man of the moment is Edson Buddle.

At least, that’s what voters said in the first MLSsoccer.com poll of the week, outlining the Americans’ possible forward combinations against Fabio Capello’s squad on Saturday. (See the poll results here)

Nearly 44 percent of voters opted for the pairing of Altidore and Buddle, who did not play together during any of the US team’s three World Cup tune-ups. Buddle scored two goals in the team’s 3-1 win over Australia last Saturday, potentially cementing his status as a go-to scoring threat against a physical English side.

The pairing of Altidore and Real Salt Lake speedster Robbie Findley finished second, with nearly 15 percent of the vote. Findley created a number of scoring chances against the Aussies, but, like Buddle, has yet to share time with Altidore since they suited up against the Netherlands during a friendly match in March.

Roughly 14 percent of voters opted for an all-MLS combination of Buddle and Findley, while just five percent preferred Altidore as the lone US striker.
