Revolution acquire Gilberto Flores

The New England Revolution announced today that the team has acquired Brazilian midfielder Gilberto Flores off of waivers. The MetroStars placed Gilberto on waivers on Wednesday, July 8. The midfielder is signed as a developmental player and will not count against the Revolution's 18-man senior roster.

"Gilberto has proven he has the ability to play in this league," said Revolution head coach Steve Nicol. "It made perfect sense to bring him in given what we've seen."

The MetroStars signed Gilberto, 21, on May 31, 2004. He started and saw action in seven games in 2004, recording one assist. This season, the defensive midfielder played in three games, logging a total of 39 minutes. Prior to coming to MLS, he played with five different Brazilian clubs, including São Paulo FC in 2002.
