Man of the Match Q&A: Danny Califf

Danny Califf

Since you have been in the starting lineup, the Quakes have allowed just one goal in three games. How do you feel the Quakes defense is coming together and playing with each other now?

Danny Califf: "I think we have been playing well together. Right now we are all trying to make sure we are on the same page, and I think you have seen that we are, and we are going to get even more comfortable and better together as this season goes on. Every game we want to try and get that clean sheet, and we were able to do it on Saturday and that is something that hopefully you will be able to see a lot more of as this season goes on."

You had to miss the early part of the season with a knee injury. How do you feel you have recovered at this stage of the season?

DC: "I feel fine. I really haven't had any problems since coming back, so that is a really good feeling. I am just happy to be here in San Jose and to be back playing. I am really happy to be in the lineup and helping this team now."

What were your thoughts on the way the Earthquakes played Saturday against D.C. United?

DC: "Well, I think that is a game that we would obviously like to forget for the most part. We did get a clean sheet and that is something that we can be pleased about, but it really is kind of funny, because we played one of our best games of the season the week before in Kansas City. Everything was great in that game, except for the loss, and then we came out and didn't play the way we wanted to against DC and got a point. I think we need to continue to improve on some of the good performances we had last month and if we can do that, we will be able to get some wins."

What do you expect this weekend when the Quakes play Chivas USA for the first time at The Home Depot Center?

DC: "Honestly, I expect to win. That is what I am focused on. I don't really care about what is going on with them, whether they have had a coaching change or not or whatever else is going on. I am concerned with our performance and what we can do to get three points. We have shown flashes recently where we have played very well, and we need to continue that kind of play. If we are able to play the way I know we can, then I think we should be alright on Sunday."
