Human foosball for DCU charity

WASHINGTON, DC - As part of Georgetown University's Senior Week, D.C. United, Chipotle and the Georgetown University Senior Class Committee, with the assistance of WHFS, are hosting the Inaugural Human Foosball Tournament to benefit United for D.C., the charitable arm of D.C. United. Proceeds from the 20-team tournament, which kicks off Sunday, May 16 at 11:30 a.m. at the Kehoe Turf on the Georgetown University campus, will assist United for D.C. in its mission to support initiatives aimed at helping underserved youth in the Washington, D.C. community.

"United for D.C. is looking forward to joining in the festivities at Georgetown University this weekend," said Catherine Marquette, Executive Director of United for D.C. and Community & Fan Relations Director for D.C. United. "This is sure to be a unique and entertaining event for participants and spectators alike. We're also appreciative of the fact that, as the Georgetown University Senior Class Committee prepares for their commencement ceremonies, they are still focused on giving to such a worthy cause."

In Human Foosball, teams of five players are strapped into an inflatable 50 x 30 arena. Like their table-bound counterparts, the players are limited to side-to-side movement. The team scoring the most goals in each game wins, and the 20 teams will compete in a single-elimination tournament to crown the champion.

Check-in begins at 11:30 a.m., with the championship final scheduled for a 3:16 p.m. kick-off. Participants in the tournament will receive goodie bags from United for D.C., a voucher for a free Chipotle burrito and a tournament T-shirt. Members of the winning team will each take home two free tickets to a future D.C. United home game, Georgetown Senior Week gear and a D.C. United car flag. Spectators will also have a chance to win autographed merchandise from D.C. United, as well as bobbleheads, T-shirts or tickets to see the Black-and-Red in action.

Contestants and staff will be well-fed and entertained during the event, as Chipotle will be providing lunch for tournament participants and volunteers. Additionally, WHFS will broadcast a series of live remotes from the tournament. Spectators and contestants will also have a chance to win tickets to HFStival 2004.

"Human foosball, live music and Chipotle burritos! All while raising money for a great cause. I'm not sure it gets any better than that," said Ron Diamond, Marketing Consultant for Chipotle. "Anytime Chipotle can partner-up with our local community to create a great vibe and spread some love is a good day for us."

Georgetown University Senior Week is an annual tradition that brings graduating seniors together for one final week of celebration prior to graduation. Activities include a trip to the National Mall, a gathering at the Preakness Stakes and the Annual President's Picnic in Potomac, and the week concludes with the Senior Ball, a black-tie event for graduates and their families the evening prior to commencement ceremonies.
