Top young-player performances in MLS Week 32
Two more match weeks made for another busy batch of opportunities for players to earn a spot in YPPOTW. After another difficult round of evaluation, here’s the best of the bunch.
• First MLS goal - vs Minnesota, 4/6/2019 in the 70th minute
• First MLS assist - at Sporting KC, 4/14/2019 on a Daniel Royer goal in the 52nd minute
• First MLS game & start - vs Houston, 8/29/2018
2021: MLS: Recorded six goals in 27 games played with 24 starts, which are all career-highs...tallied three game-winning goals, which was tied for the club lead... scored game-winning goal against New York City FC on October 17 at Red Bull Arena... recorded four assists, which is tied with his career-high. Playoffs: Started and played all 120 minutes vs. Philadelphia Union on Nov. 20.
2020: MLS: Recorded two goals and three assists in 19 games played with 14 starts ... tallied his second career multi-point performance with a goal and an assist at New York City FC on November 1. Playoffs: Came on as a substitute in the 50th minute vs. Columbus Crew SC on Nov. 21.
2019: Started 20 of his 22 appearances … recorded three goals and four assists in 1711 minutes played ... scored his first career MLS goal against Minnesota United on April 6. Playoffs: Made his first MLS playoff appearance against the Philadelphia Union. Open Cup: Scored his first career Open Cup goal against the New England Revolution in the Fourth Round on June 11. CCL: Didn’t appear in any games. USL: Started two games tallying 163 minutes.
2018: MLS: Called up to the first team for the Houston Dynamo match on Aug. 29 ... made his MLS debut and first-career start vs. Dynamo. USL: Started in 19 of 26 matches he has appeared in ... tallied three goals and two assists in 1,786 minutes played.
Earned his senior national team call-up on October 10, 2020 to compete with Venezuela in the 2020 World Cup Qualifiers ... has appeared in 13 matches with eight starts totaling 709 minutes played ... recorded his first start for Venezuela on October 14 against Paraguay.
Featured for the Venezuelan U-20 team during the 2019 U-20 South American Championship ... started all four Group A matches and then started all five Group 1 matches ... Since Sept. 7, 2019, he has recorded 14 games started with one assist in 1,020 minutes played across all competitions.
A fixture for the Venezuelan U-17 squad before being called into camp for the U-20 side that finished as runners up at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup ... was also on the roster for the 2017 CONMEBOL Under-17 Football Championship, starting seven of the nine matches and scoring one goal.
Cásseres, Jr., is following in the footsteps of his father, Cristian Cásseres Sr., who played for the Venezuelan national team. Cásseres Sr. played for Atletico Venezuela’s first team while Cásseres Jr., was on the U-14 team.
PRIOR TO NEW YORK
At the age of 16, the midfielder made his professional debut for Deportivo La Guaira in the Venezuelan First Division ... appeared in 15 total matches for the senior team and scored once.
New York Red Bulls complete transfer of Cristian Cásseres, Jr. on February 2, 2018. Casseres Jr., a Discovery Signing, will occupy an international spot on the Red Bulls roster.
