PREKI AND COBI JONES TO ADDRESS MEDIA IN SUPER CLÁSICO PRESS CONFERENCE TUESDAY:


Chivas USA Head Coach Preki and LA Galaxy Interim Head Coach Cobi Jones will address media in a press conference tomorrow, Aug. 12, at 12:45 p.m. at The Home Depot Center's TV Studio. The two coaches will preview Thursday night's Honda Super Clásico between the Los Angeles-based teams. Chivas USA will square off against the LA Galaxy this Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. PT in the final Honda Super Clásico of the 2008 season. The Battle for Los Angeles will take place at The Home Depot Center in Carson, and will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes, with a pregame show starting on ESPN2 at 7:30 p.m. PT. The match will decide the winner of the Super Clásico trophy, which is currently held by the Red-and-White after taking the series in 2007. CLAUDIO SUÁREZ THROWS FIRST PITCH AT DODGERS-PHILLIES GAME:


Ahead of Thursday night's Honda Super Clásico between Chivas USA and the Los Angeles Galaxy, Chivas USA captain and renowned Mexican defender Claudio 'El Emperador' Suárez
threw the ceremonial first pitch
at last night's game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies at Dodger Stadium. Throughout the 2008 Major League Soccer season, Chivas USA has been celebrating the 'Year of the Emperor' in honor of the legendary career of Suárez, who represented the Mexican National Team more times than any other player. Suárez, who recently launched his official biography in English and in Spanish entitled 'The Story of a Warrior,' will also exchange jerseys with Dodgers infielder Nomar Garciaparra. The first pitch will take place at 6:45 p.m. PT; media looking to cover Suárez' first pitch should contact Chivas USA Communications or Dodgers Communications for credentials and arrive at Dodger Stadium no later than 6:30 p.m.

BANDA EL RECODO TO PERFORM 'MÉXICO LINDO Y QUERIDO' BEFORE THURSDAY'S GAME:


Members of the famed Mexican music group 'Banda el Recodo' will perform popular Mexican folk song 'Mexico Lindo y Querido' before this Thursday night's Honda Super Clásico between Chivas USA and the Los Angeles Galaxy. The group, which plays traditional Mexican 'banda' music, will also play a role in the pre-game coin toss ceremony at midfield. Banda el Recodo is one of the most popular Mexican groups of all-time, having been founded in 1938.

CHIVAS USA TO HOLD THIRD 'PRACTICE IN THE COMMUNITY' IN MISSION VIEJO FRIDAY:


Chivas USA players will be at the annual Soccer for Hope MV Camp in Mission Viejo this Friday morning as they go through a practice session, meet fans, and sign autographs at the event. This will be the third in a series of Practices in the Community for Chivas USA, and begins at 10:00 a.m. PT on Friday at the World Cup Center La Paz and Marguerite, at 27301 La Paz Road in Mission Viejo, Calif.

SANTA ANA HIGH SCHOOL IS THIS WEEK'S 'BAND OF THE GAME':


Each home game during the 2008 season, Chivas USA will give one local band the opportunity to perform at every home game in 2008. At the final Honda Super Clásico of the 2008 season between Chivas USA and the Los Angeles Galaxy on Aug. 14, students from the Santa Ana High School Band will perform before and during the match.

RENOWNED TV CHEF INGRID HOFFMANN TO VISIT THE HOME DEPOT CENTER THURSDAY:


Celebrity chef Ingrid Hoffmann, host of the Food Network's 'Simply Delicioso' and Galavisión's 'Delicioso', will be greeting press in the Press Box at The Home Depot Center during Thursday night's Honda Super Clásico between Chivas USA and the Los Angeles Galaxy, courtesy of the Chilean Avocado Importers Association. The Colombian-born chef will also share her special guacamole recipe in the food area of the Press Box.

CHIVAS USA RESERVES BACK TO ACTION THIS FRIDAY AT THE HOME DEPOT CENTER:


The Chivas USA Reserves will face the Los Angeles Galaxy Reserves for the second time this season on Friday morning at The Home Depot Center. A night after the first teams square off, the Reserves will have a rematch of a 5-3 Galaxy win in the last Reserve Division game for both teams. GERSON MAYEN CALLED UP TO U.S. U-20'S FOR PAIR OF FRIENDLIES AGAINST GUATEMALA:


Chivas USA midfielder Gerson Mayen has been called into the United States Under-20 National Team by head coach Thomas Rongen for a five day camp in Sunrise, Fla. The camp, which runs from Aug. 10-14, will also include a pair of friendly matches, on Aug. 12 and 14, both against CONCACAF foe Guatemala. Mayen had previously been with the Under-20 National Team in April for the Campos Verdes International Tournament in Portugal, where he played one match, his first with the squad. CLAUDIO SUÁREZ' BOOK 'THE STORY OF A WARRIOR' NOW ON SALE:


After more than 20 years as a professional soccer player, Chivas USA's legendary Mexican defender Claudio Suárez has come out with his biography, which contains photographs and stories gathered over the course of two years by both Claudio Suárez and the well-known author Enrique León Candiani. Showing the dedication and determination of the Chivas USA central defender, the book documents the story of Suárez, who has won championships in the Mexican First Division, participated in World Cups, and made more appearances with the Mexican National Team than any other player in history. CHIVAS USA ORIGINAL FRANCISCO MENDOZA PLAYS HIS 100TH GAME AGAINST KANSAS CITY:


Mexican midfielder Francisco Mendoza played his 100th career regular-season match this past Saturday against the Kansas City Wizards, becoming the first player in franchise history to play 100 regular-season games with Chivas USA. The 23-year-old Mendoza, a native of El Salto, Jalisco, has been a member of Chivas USA since the club's inaugural season in 2005 and is currently the club's all-time team leader in regular-season minutes played, with 8,488. A product of the youth system of Mexican sister club Chivas de Guadalajara, which he joined at age 14, Mendoza was acquired by Chivas USA in 2005, prior to the Red-and-White's inaugural season as an expansion team in Major League Soccer. Since then, the Chivas USA Original has played 100 of the 112 regular-season games the team has played. The club will celebrate Mendoza's achievement with a ceremony at midfield prior to the match between Chivas USA and the Los Angeles Galaxy this Thursday night.

CHIVAS USA'S SACHA KLJESTAN SCORES KEY OLYMPIC GOAL FOR USA:


Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan (Huntington Beach, Calif.) scored the United States' first goal in a 2-2 tie with the Netherlands and was named the USA's Man of the Match in Olympic men's soccer action Sunday evening (local time) in Tianjin, China. The 22 -year-old Kljestan started the play at midfield, playing give-and-go passes with both Stuart Holden and Freddy Adu before striking a right-footed shot past the Dutch goalkeeper and into the net to tie the match at 1-1 in the 64th minute. Kljestan was also named U.S. Soccer's Sierra Mist Man of the Match for the game. The U.S. later took the lead, but a late goal from Holland evened the score at 2-2 and sends the U.S. into its final group stage game on Wednesday morning against Nigeria needing a win or a tie to assure a spot in the quarterfinals. (The beat Japan 1-0 in its first game before tying Holland, and is tied for first in the group with Nigeria, both teams owning a win and a draw.) Kljestan and the United States will play Nigeria at 2:00 a.m. PT on Wednesday morning in a match to be broadcast live on USA Network.

'KICK-IT' THIS SATURDAY, AUGUST 16 AT SOUTH PARK RECREATION CENTER IN LOS ANGELES:


'Kick-it at the Park L.A. with Chivas USA' continues this Saturday, August 16, with a clinic at the South Park Recreation Center at 345 East 51st Street in Los Angeles. A series of four, 90-minute clinics kicks off at 9:00 a.m., followed by clinics at 10:45 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. Run in conjunction with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, 'Kick-it' is a series of clinics that emphasize physical fitness, sports, and education for as many as 400 children at each of 40 locations throughout the year. A five-dollar fee gets participants 90 minutes of instruction, a voucher for a free ticket to a Chivas USA game, a t-shirt, soccer ball, and Certificate of Completion. Most recently, Chivas USA held a clinic at the Gilbert Lindsay Recreation Center at 429 East 42nd Place in Los Angeles on August 9. INJURY REPORT:


A number of Chivas USA players did not make the trip to Kansas City this past weekend as they recover from injuries. These players include Jonathan Bornstein (L thigh strain), Alecko Eskandarian (sports hernia surgery), Jorge Flores (R ankle), Maykel Galindo (sports hernia surgery), Ante Razov (L knee sprain), Claudio Suárez (concussion), Raphaël Wicky (R ankle surgery), and Alex Zotinca (R knee surgery). Lawson Vaughn left the match on Saturday with a sprained knee. An up-to-date injury report, along with players' status for Thursday's game, can be found on the

LAST CHANCE FOR CHIVAS USA SOCCER CAMPS AND TRYOUTS:


Chivas USA's Soccer Camps, which also double as tryouts for the Chivas USA Youth Teams, are down to the final session, which will take place on Aug. 29 at the Bell Gardens Sports Center in Bell Gardens, Calif. and Aug. 30 at The Home Depot Center. This camp gives players a chance to receive professional instruction from Chivas USA coaches, and could potentially lead to an invitation to join the Chivas USA U-18 or U-16 Teams, which participate in the United States Soccer Development Academy, or the highly competitive U-15 Team. Invited players from earlier camps this summer have already started training with the Youth Teams as they try to earn spots with the club.

The Red-and-White have five players celebrating birthdays in Aug., starting on the 9th when rookie midfielder Keith Savage turns 23. Next up comes goalkeeper Lance Parker on Aug. 19th, also celebrating his 23rd birthday. Forward Anthony Hamilton and defender Carey Talley share an Aug. 26th birthday, with Hamilton turning 23 and Talley, in his 11th MLS season, turning 32.
