Weekly update: Rapids approaching

Houston Dynamo rebounded from two tough losses, with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake last Saturday at Robertson Stadium. With the win, Houston Dynamo improves to 2-1 at Robertson Stadium and 2-2 overall for the season.


After a scoreless first half, Real Salt Lake took the lead at the 57th minute, when Real Salt Lake forward Jeff Cunningham took possession of a bobbled throw-in and angled a shot past Houston Dynamo goalkeeper Pat Onstad. Houston Dynamo answered back quickly, at the 60th minute, with defender Craig Waibel heading a Brad Davis corner kick past Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Scott Garlick.


The match was decided at the 85th minute, when Houston Dynamo midfielder Dwayne De Rosario, in his first game back after receiving a red card against the Kansas City Wizards on April 8, received the ball from a beautiful combination by Robinson and forward Brian Ching, and slotted it past Garlick and into the net.


HOUSTON DYNAMO TO FACE COLORADO RAPIDS

Houston Dynamo (2-2-0) will play against the Colorado Rapids (1-1-1) for the second time this season on Saturday, April 29, at Invesco Field at Mile High, in Denver, at 8:00 p.m. CT. Houston Dynamo won the first meeting between the two teams in a 5-2 blowout at Robertson Stadium, in both teams' season opener. The Rapids are coming off a bye week during which they played an exhibition match against the Colorado School of Mines Men's Soccer Team.


WAIBEL, DE ROSARIO NOMINATED FOR GOAL OF THE WEEK

Houston Dynamo defender Craig Waibel and midfielder Dwayne De Rosario have both been nominated for this week's Sierra Mist Goal of the Week award. Waibel scored on a header from a corner kick by Brad Davis, and De Rosario scored on a dramatic run through the Real Salt Lake defense. Fans can vote for either player through the MLS website at www.mlsnet.com.


HOUSTON DYNAMO PLAYERS LEAD MLS

Houston Dynamo forward Brian Ching and midfielder Dwayne De Rosario are off to a hot start for the 2006 MLS season, leading the league in multiple statistical categories. Ching holds the number one spot in goals with 5, shots with 16, and shots on goal with 9. Ching is also one of only five MLS players to record a multi-goal game thus far this season. De Rosario leads the league in assists with 4.


HOUSTON DYNAMO IN THE COMMUNITY

Houston Dynamo head coach, Dominic Kinnear, will be speaking at the Elkins High School soccer banquet at Regal Ranch on Tuesday, April 25. Houston Dynamo midfielder Marcus Storey graduated from Elkins, and also played on its soccer team.


Houston Dynamo midfielder, Aaron Lanes, signed autographs and talked to Boy Scouts at the 2006 Sam Houston Area Boy Scout Fair at Reliant Park on Saturday, April 22. The annual event drew more than 30,000 scouts.


Houston Dynamo forward Ronald Cerritos was a special guest at the kickoff ceremony for the La Costa Soccer League tournament in Houston. Cerritos, along with former Salvadorian National Team member Santos Cabrera, talked to fans and signed autographs, and received a plaque recognizing his contributions to soccer in Houston and in El Salvador.


Houston Dynamo players Aaron Lanes, Stuart Holden, Mike Chabala and Brad Davis attended Relay for Life, held at Stallworth Stadium in Baytown on Friday, April 21. The players signed autographs and mingled with participants in this charitable event, which ran all day Friday until 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 22.

HOUSTON DYNAMO MIDFIELDER UNDERGOES SUCCESSFUL SURGERY
Aaron Lanes, who last week suffered a right fifth metatarsal fracture, underwent successful surgery on Monday, April 24, at the Methodist Hospital. The procedure lasted about a half an hour and it was performed by Houston Orthopedic Surgeon Kevin Varner. Lanes is expected to be out for the next few weeks.


CHECK OUT THE DYNAMO ON TV AND RADIO

Houston Dynamo defender Eddie Robinson as well as head Coach Dominic Kinnear will be this week's guests on ESPN 790's Dynamo Power Hour, airing Monday, April 24, at 7 p.m. Robinson, who had an assist on Dwayne De Rosario's game-winning goal against Real Salt Lake last Saturday, will discuss his performance in the match and Houston Dynamo's upcoming contest against the Colorado Rapids.


Houston Dynamo midfielder Ricardo Clark will be the guest on TV Informa 43's "Dynamo TV", airing on Tuesday, April 25 at 6:30 p.m. Clark will talk about Houston Dynamo's performance against Real Salt Lake last Saturday, and the upcoming match against the Colorado Rapids in Denver.


Houston Dynamo assistant coach John Spencer will be appearing on The Soccer Hour with Glenn Davis on Wednesday, April 26, at 9:00 p.m. on ESPN 790 AM. Spencer joined Houston Dynamo earlier this year as an assistant coach after a 19-year professional soccer career, including four years with the Colorado Rapids from 2001-2004.
