Weekly update: The old college try

CARSON, Calif. - Chivas USA (1-2-0) will face university sides San Diego State, on Wednesday, April 19, and California, on Saturday April 22, as it prepares for next Saturday's match against the New York Red Bulls at The Home Depot Center. Chivas USA has a bye in this, Week 4 of the 2006 Major League Soccer season.


SUPER CLÁSICO WRAPUP: Chivas USA fell 2-1 to intra-city rivals the Los Angles Galaxy in a hotly contested match at The Home Depot Center. Two goals by Cornell Glen lifted the Galaxy to their first win of the season, after Ante Razov scored for the Red-and-White in the 46th.


RED BULLS IN TOWN: Chivas USA will play their third home game, against the New York Red Bulls (0-0-3), on Saturday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. at The Home Depot Center. As Chivas USA will be celebrating 'El Día del Niño' (Children's Day), the first 10,000 children to arrive at the stadium will receive a special gift courtesy of Disneyland Resort.


MEXICO VS. VENEZUELA MAY 5 AT THE ROSE BOWL: Mexico will face Venezuela in their last game in the United States before heading off to Europe to play in the World Cup. Mexico will bring their full roster of stars including Chivas USA defender Claudio Suárez. And in a special offer, fans who purchase a ticket for Mexico-Venezuela via 1-877-CHIVAS-1 can get a $10 ticket for Chivas USA vs. New York Red Bulls (April 29) or Chivas USA vs. Chicago Fire (May 27) at The Home Depot Center.

SUÁREZ WITH MEXICAN SQUAD: Claudio Suárez has joined El Tri in Acapulco for intensive workouts preparing the squad for the World Cup in Germany. The training will also give the coaching staff an assessment of which players will make the final 23 man roster. There are currently 26 members on head coach Ricardo Lavolpe's provisional roster.


RAZOV WATCH: Chivas USA forward Ante Razov, the fourth-leading goalscorer in MLS history, added one more goal to his account Saturday to bring his regular-season career total to 87 and thus close in on third place, currently occupied by now-retired forward Roy Lassiter (88). (Jason Kreis and D.C.'s Jaime Moreno, both active players, sit in first and second place, respectively.) GUADALAJARA UPDATE: Club Deportivo Guadalajara, Chivas USA's sister team, tied Caracas 0-0 this past April 12 in the Copa Libertadores tournament leaving the Red-and-White atop of their group with 11 points. Their next game will be against the Peruvian team Cienciano de Cuzco. In the Clausura 2006 tournament, Chivas lost the Guadalajara clásico against Atlas 3-0. Their next league game will be against Tecos next April 23.


CHIVAS USA FUTBOL ACADEMY: The Chivas USA Futbol Academy continues play this week in preparation for this weekend's slate of games in Baldwin Park, with sessions at The Home Depot Center's Field 5 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday.
