CHIVAS USA FACES HOUSTON IN FINAL PRESEASON MATCH THIS FRIDAY; HOME OPENER MARCH 21:
With less than two weeks until the Red-and-White's opening match on Saturday, March 21, Chivas USA faces the Houston Dynamo this Friday night in the team's final tune-up for the 2009 MLS season. The match is closed to the public but open to media, and will be held in the Main Stadium at The Home Depot Center; media interested in attending should contact Chivas USA Communications. Eight days later, the Red-and-White will play again in the Main Stadium, facing the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the season-opener for Chivas USA. DEADLINE FOR CHIVAS USA 2009 SEASON MEDIA CREDENTIALS IS THIS FRIDAY, MARCH 13: Media members should apply for Chivas USA 2009 Season Media Credentials via the club's online credentialing process for the 2009 MLS season. Working members of print, radio, television and online outlets are asked to submit their information by Friday, March 13, at 5:00 p.m. PT. CHIVAS USA FALLS TO CHICAGO IN PRESEASON SCRIMMAGE ON SATURDAY: Playing its second preseason scrimmage against MLS competition in four days, Chivas USA fell 2-1 to the Chicago Fire on Saturday morning on University Field 2 at The Home Depot Center. The Fire scored twice in the first half, and the Red-and-White pulled one back with 20 minutes remaining on Sacha Kljestan's penalty kick, but could not find the equalizer. The match followed Wednesday's 1-0 loss to San Jose, where the Red-and-White gave up an early goal but played tight defense and created numerous chances afterward. Chivas USA closes its preseason schedule this Friday night against the Houston Dynamo; a full preseason schedule is below:

CHIVAS USA DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY TEAMS FALL TO LAFC: The Chivas USA U-18 and U-16 Teams fell by matching 2-1 scores to LAFC Chelsea this past Sunday at Cerritos College in Norwalk, Calif., in Development Academy action. The U-18's dominated the first half of its game but gave up a pair of goals early in the second half, and were able to pull a goal back though Victor Sanchez despite being down to 10 men, but could not find the equalizer. In the U-16 match, Yohel de Jesus scored to make the game 1-1, but LAFC took a 2-1 advantage it would not lose. The next matches for the club come on Saturday, when the teams play again at Cerritos College, this time against Pateadores, with the U-16's kicking off at noon and the U-18's at 2:15 p.m.
JORGE FLORES AND U.S. U-20'S CAN CLINCH SPOT IN UNDER-20 WORLD CUP TOMORROW: Chivas USA midfielder Jorge Flores is currently with the United States Under-20 National Team as it attempts to qualify for the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup. In its first match of the U-20 CONCACAF Championships on Friday, the U.S. earned a 3-0 victory over Jamaica, with Flores playing the final six minutes of the game. The U.S. then tied Honduras 0-0 on Sunday, and will be looking for a win or a draw against El Salvador on Tuesday to secure a spot in the semifinals and at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt from Sept. 24-Oct. 16.

CHIVAS DE GUADALAJARA UPDATE: Chivas de Guadalajara had a pair of 2-0 losses this past week, first falling to Caracas FC of Venezuela on Wednesday in the Copa Libertadores, then again to Jaguares in the Mexican First Division. Both losses were on the road, and Chivas now sits in second place in both Group 6 of the Libertadores and Group B of the Mexican First Division. In the league, Guadalajara has 12 points and a record of 3-3-3, trailing Pumas by just one point in the group. Chivas now returns home to the Estadio Jalisco to face Atlas this coming Saturday.
