USA set to face Poland in Chicago

Carlos Bocanegra rejoined the US national team for the first time since the World Cup.

NEW YORK – The U.S. national team will be back in action in October.

Following a 2-0 loss to Brazil on Aug. 10, the USA announced it will play Poland on Saturday, Oct. 9 (8 p.m. ET, Fox Soccer Channel and Univisión). Poland are co-hosts of the 2012 European Championship.

The same matchup on July 11, 2004, drew nearly 40,000 fans in Chicago, home to a large Polish community. That match finished 1-1 with US captain Carlos Bocanegra equalizing two minutes from time.

"These fixture dates are a fantastic opportunity to have the group together for an extended period and then put the work to the test with a difficult match,” U.S. head coach Bob Bradley said. “We know this is an important opportunity for Poland as they prepare for the 2012 European Championship, so we expect a challenging game.”

The U.S. Soccer Federation announced Tuesday that it has agreed to a contract extension with head coach Bob Bradley through 2014, ending months of speculation after Bradley led the team to the Round of 16 of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

October features a double FIFA match date with a friendly against Colombia scheduled for Oct. 12 at the Philadelphia Union's PPL Park. This will give Bradley the chance to hold a week-long camp highlighted by the two exhibitions.
