WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United announced today the team has released midfielder Steve Guppy. Guppy joined United in March following a 16-year career in some of Europe's most prestigious leagues. The 36-year old started in United's first four MLS matches of 2005, but fell to injury in early May. Guppy returned to play during United's July 15 game with the San Jose Earthquakes.
"We thank Steve for his contributions to the team, both on and off the field," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "He was nothing but a gentlemen during his time with us and we wish him the best."
Guppy missed approximately ten weeks of play, following various injuries, and returned as a sub in the 83rd minute on July 15. He leaves the Black-and-Red having played in five total games, with a total of 286 minutes on the field. He registered one assist in League play.
