United to auction off game-worn jerseys during playoff match

Washington, D.C. - D.C. United announced today the team, in partnership with its non-profit arm, United for D.C., will be holding a silent auction of 2005 game-worn United jerseys during Sunday's playoff game against the Chicago Fire. All proceeds will benefit United for D.C. and the programs operated by the charity. Jerseys to be auctioned include home and away game-worn attire by Freddy Adu, Jaime Moreno, Christian Gomez and Ben Olsen, among others. Sunday's game kicks off at 4:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on espn2.

"Our fans constantly ask for ways to raise funds for the charity while being closer to our players," stated Catherine Marquette, Executive Director of United for D.C. and Community Relations Director of D.C. United. "What better way to combine these two wishes than to host an auction of autographed game-worn merchandise! We look forward to what is always a spirited, and successful, fundraiser."</p>

The silent auction will begin when gates open at 3:00 p.m. and will be located on RFK Stadium's concourse just inside of the Main Gate. Bids will be accepted until the end of halftime, or approximately 5:35 p.m. Up to twelve authentic game-worn jerseys will be auctioned. Minimum bids will begin at $150.00. All funds raised from the auction will assist United for D.C. with operating its United Reads, Kicks for Kids and United Community Grant programs. The grants program alone awarded over $81,500 in gifts, which was announced at the United Awards Reception this past Monday night. </p>
