Transfer Watch: Trinidad & Tobago captain Kenwyne Jones reportedly in talks with MLS teams

If you watched Mexico vs. Trinidad & Tobago in the teams' Group C Gold Cup finale on Wednesday, you witnessed a game for the ages.

One of the stars in the 4-4 thriller, which resulted in T&T winning the group, was captain Kenwyne Jones, a longtime veteran of English soccer who was involved in almost all of his team's goals in Charlotte, North Carolina.

And Jones could be on his way to MLS soon, if a report from The Yanks Are Coming is to be believed. According to Kyle Bonn, two MLS teams are reportedly in talks with the 30-year-old Jones, who is currently under contract to English Championship team Cardiff City.

Bonn cites two sources who claim "Jones is in talks with two playoff-caliber clubs with open Designated Player spots."

And Jones didn't pour cold water on the speculation linking him to an MLS move.

“With the league growing such as this, and it being much closer to home for me, sometimes it’s a no-brainer, but it depends on if everything comes together for that to happen,” he is quoted as saying. “We all know that soccer, or football, here is run different than it is everywhere else, so it might take a lot of things, or it might take nothing for me to be here, so I can’t really worry about it. I’m happy that my name is being linked and I welcome that, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”

The 6-foot-2 Jones has considerable experience in England, playing in the Premier League for Sunderland and Stoke City between 2007-14. He's also played in the lower leagues of England, for Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff City.

Most recently, he was on loan to AFC Bournemouth, who he helped to win promotion to the Premier League for the first time in the club's history. He's scored 40 goals in the EPL, 34 in the Championship, and 19 more in other competitions in his English club career.
