Honda SuperClasico Press Conference
Sept. 29, 2006
Los Angeles Galaxy
Galaxy head coach Frank Yallop on game being a must win:
"It is a game that we need to get three points out of, and at this point in the season it is crucial for us. We cannot lose a game. So we are going crazy moving forward, and those are things we are not used to doing, but we obviously have to try to win the match. Chivas is trying to grab those last few points, so it is setting up to be a really good game."
Galaxy forward Landon Donovan on dealing with a must win game:
"Tomorrow is going to be fun and probably a little bit emotional. For us, however, we have been in this situation for a few weeks now, and as far as us being battle tested there, isn't much to say."
Galaxy defender Ugo Ihemelu on experiencing a second season of the Honda SuperClascio:
"I feel that there is more pressure and demand on me, since I have experienced it already. We have some younger guys on the field, so I will have to be more of a leader on the field than I was last year. It is going to be a good game, and it is going to force players to be at their best."
Chivas USA
Chivas USA Head Coach on winning the first Honda SuperClasico:
"I think anybody who watched any of the three SuperClasico matches this year would realize that in terms of atmosphere and competitiveness, they have been some of the best games we have seen in Major League Soccer. This game comes at the end of the season when the stakes are always higher. The Galaxy will come out with their pride of fighting until the end and trying to hold on the MLS Cup. For us in our second year, it is a tremendous opportunity to put our selves in the playoffs, and a win over a big rival puts us in a good position to play for that MLS Cup this year. "
Chivas USA Midfielder Jesse Marsch on the last three encounters with L.A. Galaxy:
"My impression of the SuperClasico last year is much different from what it is this year. Watching it on T.V., just doesn't do it justice. Playing in those games and going through the emotion of playing a big rival is a tough game, but it is a fun game. I think you are going to see a tough battle from the first kick. These games have always been tight, so it is going to be another well fought battle."
Chivas USA Midfielder Francisco Mendoza on the difference in the Super Clasico from last year to this year:
"I think our team last year was very limited in what it could do, and this year everything has changed. I feel that we have sincerely won respect. Things are definitely different; the Galaxy has not come out the way they did last year. I am lucky to play in a number of Clasicos and I am really looking forward to this game tomorrow."
