CAN TORONTO'S FREESTYLE SOCCER PLAYERS DEFY GRAVITY ONE KEEP-UP AT A TIME TO MAKE THE RED BULL STREET STYLE NATIONAL FINALS?
Following the runaway success of 2008 culminating in the first ever World Finals in Sao Paulo, Red Bull Street Style returns for 2009/10 to keep the world freestyle soccer elite on their toes and the tricks fresh. It's time to get up, get back on it, and get practicing: Red Bull Street Style is back! On October 10, 2009 at 12:00PM head over to Gate 1 at BMO Field, located at 170 Princes' Blvd and show us your fancy footwork. The competition gets underway at 1:30 pm, prior to the Toronto FC versus San Jose Earthquakes match, but competitors need to arrive at 12:00 pm to register.
Not familiar with Red Bull Street Style? Red Bull Street Style's rules are easy as 3-2-1: three minutes, two players, and one ball form the battleground, in which Control, Creativity and Style are king. The freestylers face off on a special stage, seven metres in diameter, and need to alternate ball possession every 20 seconds while displaying their most wicked ball tricks to the rhythm of music to impress the judges, beat their rival and move on to the next round. It's all fair game during those three minutes, except using the hands.
Through a series of regional qualifiers and a national final on November 15, 2009 in Toronto, Red Bull Street Style is searching for Canada's top freestyler to represent at the world finals in South Africa. Last year, José Pena took the Canadian championship title and headed to San Paolo to showcase his smooth style.
