TORONTO FC 2, NEW YORK RED BULLS 1
TORONTO FC INTERIM HEAD COACH CHRIS CUMMINS
On the game:
"Listen, we're delighted with the three points, we needed to get ourselves back on track, I said during the week they (N.Y.) are like a wounded animal and they're going to fight, they're going to battle for their management and they did that. We went in 2-nil at halftime, I thought we were a little lucky to be 2-nil up. Obviously Sammy Cronin's got his first goal, his first professional goal which is great for the young kid and then Danny's done what Danny's done for many years and he's got himself a decent goal."
On momentum going into Thursday's game:
"It's massive you know, we've given ourselves a little boost it's important that we stopped our bad run we were on with the three losses and we'll see if we can get another run started. We scored a couple of goals tonight which should give us a bit of confidence I think we've had a lot of chances again and it's important that we go into the game with that. The lads will have a couple of days of rest in now, we think we're still in, we think we're one hundred percent in it so if we go in there and show composure in front of goal we've got a chance."
TORONTO FC MIDFIELDER CARL ROBINSON
On the game:
"It's a superb win for us, it was very scrappy it wasn't a very enjoyable game but we'll take a scrappy game every game and a victory after the three defeats we've just had."
On Nick Garcia's contribution:
"I thought Nicky was fantastic, I think everybody knows what he brings to the back line, a lot of experience, a lot of talking, and a lot of organizing. And it's great for a midfielder player when you've got a defender behind you that tells you left, right, forward, or whatever because it might mean more work for me but it saves him work and that's what he brought to the game today along with Nana (Attakora) and Adrian (Serioux)."
TORONTO FC MIDFIELDER SAM CRONIN
On Garcia's play:
"I thought he was very good, he's such an organizer, good communicator, he keeps everyone organized and kind of calm and he has a good presence about himself. He had a great first game and I think everyone enjoyed playing around him."
TORONTO FC DEFENDER NICK GARCIA
On his first game with TFC:
"It was good, you know for me, I've been playing 90 minutes every game so the real challenge for me was getting in there and staying in tune with the guys and going from a three-back to a four-back was a slight change but you know everybody adjusted fairly well. It's a good start and we've got some stuff to work on but three points is three points in this league."
NEW YORK RED BULLS HEAD COACH JUAN CARLOS OSORIO
On the game:
"I think we deserved at least a point. The guys, especially in the second half really took the game to them and basically we limited them to -- two shots from about 20 yards out one from (Adrian) Serioux, and one from (Kevin) Harmse and everything else I think we controlled the game and dominated the game. It goes without saying that when things don't go your way, they just don't go your way. We got a penalty in the second minute of the game, obviously that was a big blow to us considering the circumstances but the boys kept going and played very well"
NEW YORK RED BULLS GOALKEEPER DANNY CEPERO
On their run of bad luck:
"It was a tough situation, you know it comes down to desire and belief and a number of plays in the first half, the penalty included. Myself included to believe that I can make that save with the run of bad luck and things that we've given up and goals that have come against us I think. Sometimes there's a lack of faith and that trickles down the team that shows itself on the field sometimes and unfortunately we've been punished in those instances."
On facing Guevara on the penalty:
"You try not to overthink it -- you know he has a reputation of being a very good striker of the ball, corner's free kicks, certainly penalty kicks and I try not to think about those things and just on instinct and what you feel in there. You know where he's going to go on a penalty and just in general being aware that he is human and the ball's going to come to you and you just have to be aware and ready for things to happen."
NEW YORK RED BULLS MIDFIELDER SETH STAMMLER
On if they can take something positive out of the second-half start:
"We're got going to be celebrating it but you know it shows that we can play with that kind of fight and possession and hopefully that translates into the next game against Seattle and maybe we can get an early goal next time and put the other team under pressure."
