Reigning Major League Soccer champions Sporting Kansas City will be honored at the White House next week ahead of their road matchup against D.C. United.
President Obama will honor the team on Wednesday for their dramatic win over Real Salt Lake in the MLS Cup last December, which gave Kansas City their second MLS title in franchise history.
SKC will then take on D.C. United at RFK Stadium on Oct. 3 in a matchup between two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference this season. SKC host the New England Revolution on Friday (8 pm ET; NBCSN).
Sporting will be the sixth MLS championship team honored by Obama since he took office in 2009.
