HOUSTON, TX - Armadillos, foxes, penguins, and even a character somewhat similar to Yosemite Sam highlighted today's presentation of preliminary designs for the Houston Dynamo's new mascot, held at the Houston Art Institute.

Seven groups of two students each showed their designs to the media, a panel of Houston Dynamo representatives, and their fellow students. The winning design will be selected in the near future.

"We were nothing short of impressed. We saw presentations by very talented students, whose dream is to give life to this team's mascot. We have the utmost confidence that we will be able to select our mascot shortly", said Dynamo Director of Marketing Lindsay Daywalt.

"It's a privilege to be able to take on such an important task," said Houston Art Institute student Arely Santos. "It's been a few days since I've been able to get any sleep, but having the opportunity to work on something this unique makes it all worth it."

The winning student(s) will not only see their work come to life, but will also receive a $500 scholarship to apply directly to their tuition, and a prize package from the Houston Dynamo. Fans could possibly see the new mascot in action by the team's inaugural game of the 2007 season, which will take place on Sunday, April 8 against the Los Angeles Galaxy. Kickoff for this game is slated for 6:00 p.m. CT.
