FRISCO, TX --
FC Dallas and the San Jose Earthquakes traded goals in the second half to tie 2-2 in a Reserve Division game played at Pizza Hut Park on Friday morning.
Earthquakes midfielder Michael Gehbru put his team on the board first in the 76th minute with a great individual effort. Gehbru received the ball near midfield on the left side, where he beat Dallas defender Michael Dello-Russo with a quick touch to his right. Gehbru then went straight toward goal, cutting around another Dallas defender before finishing with his left foot from 16 yards out.
FCD's Jamie Watson evened the score six minutes later. Midfielder Victor Sikora dropped the ball back to Chase Wileman, who sent a through ball up the middle of the field. Watson's well-timed run forced Colorado goalkeeper Mike Graczyk to come off his line, leaving just enough space for Watson to slot the ball to the lower right corner of the net.
A San Jose own goal increased the Dallas lead to 2-1 in the 86th minute. Anthony Wallace dribbled past an Earthquakes defender on the left side of the field and sent a ball across the goal mouth intended for Bobby Rhine. Before Rhine could get to it, San Jose defender Jamil Roberts slid in and knocked the ball into his own net in an attempt to clear the ball to safety.
Roberts redeemed himself by scoring the game-tying header on a set piece just seconds before the final whistle. Defender Matt Hatzke delivered an in-swinging free kick from 30 yards out on the left side. Roberts rose above the Dallas defense inside the penalty area and redirected the ball into the net from the top of the six yard box.
The tie brings FCD's record to 3-5-3 (12 pts.) in Reserve Division play with one game remaining, at Los Angeles on Oct. 26. The Earthquakes are now 3-4-2 (11 pts.) and will host Chivas USA next Sunday, Oct. 12.
