Miss LA Galaxy 2010 crowned

Nicola Wales-Wong from Redondo Beach, Calif. is the newly crowned winner of the Miss L.A. Galaxy 2010 contest, presented by COVERGIRL®. As part of her award she earned a paid position on the 2010 court, $1,000 cash prize courtesy of COVERGIRL, a three or four day cruise courtesy of Cruise Planners, COVERGIRL makeup, a flower bouquet, a crown and embroidered satin sash.


"I'm so grateful and appreciative of everything that the Galaxy, COVERGIRL and Cruise Planners has done for us and I want to thank the organization and everyone who has voted for such a wonderful opportunity," said Wales-Wong. "I can't wait to help make 2010 a successful year for the team and the Miss LA Galaxy court. I'm thrilled, beyond belief, to come aboard during such an exciting time as the LA Galaxy moves into the playoffs. Go Galaxy!"


A professional pet sitter for Fetch! Pet Care of LA South Bay, Wales-Wong defeated 11 other finalists in the contest, held on the main concourse of The Home Depot Center prior to the Galaxy's game against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, October 24. A long-time Galaxy fan, she played AYSO soccer for six years and is also a life long fan of Manchester United, thanks to her father who is from England and a huge supporter of the Red Devils.


A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, LA, Wales-Whang graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Associate of the Arts degree in Visual Communications in June 2009.


In the community, Wales-Wong is a dedicated community member volunteering for Project Angel Food's "Divine Design", the East Maui Animal Refuge in Haiku, Hawaii, the "Strut Your Mutt", and a walk for homeless pets in Westchester, Calif. She also participated in a fundraiser for Dobbs Animal Shelter and Rescue in Gradin, Mo.


Among her hobbies, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, beach activities, playing and watching sports, traveling, music, concerts, taking lots of pictures, dancing, singing, quotes, and anything creative.


Those named to the 2010 Miss L.A. Galaxy court were: 1st Runner Up - Elizabeth Gomez - receives a paid position on 2010 court, $500 cash Prize, flower bouquet and embroidered satin sash, 2nd Runner Up - Alondra Suarez - receives a paid position on the 2010 court, $200 Cash Prize, flower bouquet and embroidered satin sash, 3rd Runner Up - Jennifer Whang - receives a paid position on the 2010 court, $200 Cash Prize, flower bouquet and embroidered satin sash.


The Fan's Choice Winner was Carly Roberts, who received the largest number of votes from the more than 9,000 votes that were cast online, and claiming a $100 cash prize and a flower bouquet.


All finalists, including the 2010 court, received a gift bag, including COVERGIRL makeup and various Galaxy prizes.


The Miss L.A. Galaxy contest was created to recognize females who are involved in their community, support community soccer and the LA Galaxy. The winner was chosen based on her poise, confidence, public speaking abilities and academic success.
