Koeman ready for taste of Primera Liga

Ronald Koeman

MADRID - After a nightmare start in the Champions League, new Valencia coach Ronald Koeman gets his first taste of Primera Liga action when his side face Real Murcia on Saturday.

The Mestalla supporters jeered Koeman`s side after they slipped to a 2-0 home defeat against Rosenborg in midweek - a result which has seriously damaged their hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the competition.

But Jose Mari Bakero, who was appointed as Koeman`s assistant, admitted improving the fortunes of Los Che will not be an overnight process.

"I do not believe in revolutions. Ronald is showing serenity and staying calm," Bakero told Marca.

"I am obviously a little disappointed we lost that game, but above all it was difficult because it as Ronald's first in charge.

"We have two options now. To move backwards and to go forward. We are people that only look forward and we know there will be ups and downs, but we also know the squad is much better than they are currently showing.

"Slowly but surely we will see Ronald's ideas affecting things."

In Saturday`s other clash Barcelona travel to Getafe hoping to claim a victory to keep the pressure on leaders Real Madrid.

Barca midfielder Lionel Messi said getting a win before the forthcoming international matches is crucial for the Catalan giants.

"It would be important to beat Getafe. After this match there's an international break and it would be important to win before that," Messi told www.fcbarcelona.com

"It's just another league match and we have to go out there to win as always.

"We always play the same way and if we can display our usual quality at the Nou Camp we can also win away from home."

Real Madrid host Real Mallorca aiming to continue their 100% winning record at the Santiago Bernabeu in the league this season.

Los Blancos have won all five of their home fixtures and have happy memories of facing Mallorca after clinching the league title with victory over them on the final day of last season.

Bernd Schusters side have not found the net in their last two matches, which may be of slight concern to the clubs supporters.

They are again likely to miss influential forward Arjen Robben who is out for three weeks with a torn thigh muscle.

Elsewhere, Sevilla coach Manolo Jimenez will hope to continue the impressive start to his managerial regime.

Having won four out of his first five games, Jimenez will have his managerial credentials tested when he takes his side to the Estadio El Madrigal to face third-placed Villarreal on Sunday night.

In other matches Almeria host Atletico Madrid, Racing Santander travel to Deportivo La Coruna and Espanyol welcome Athletic Bilbao.

Real Betis face Real Zaragoza at the Manuel Ruiz de Lopera, Osasuna face a trip to Recreativo Huelva and Valladolid host Levante.
