Katrina Lopez from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. is the newly crowned winner of the Miss LA Galaxy 2009 contest, presented by COVERGIRL. As part of her award she earned a $1,000 cash prize courtesy of COVERGIRL, COVERGIRL makeup, a flower bouquet, a crown and embroidered satin sash. Lopez was also the Fan's Choice Winner, receiving nearly 30 percent of the more than 8,000 votes that were cast online, garnering her a $100 cash prize.
A Customer Service Manager for Dodge, Lopez defeated nine other finalists in the contest, held on the main concourse of The Home Depot Center prior to the Galaxy's game against FC Dallas on Sunday, October 26.
A graduate of California Baptist University, Lopez graduated with a degree in Business Management in 2005. She was co-captain of the Women's soccer team and was named the team's Most Inspirational Player in 2004. In addition, she currently coaches a local AYSO Girls Under-14 team.
In the community, Lopez is a dedicated community member volunteering for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon, answering phones in 2004 and 2005.
Among her hobbies, she enjoys sports; especially soccer, dancing, reading business and self-enlightening books, and hanging out with close friends and family.
Those named to the 2009 Miss L.A. Galaxy court were: 1st Runner Up - Samantha Vue - $500 cash Prize, flower bouquet, tiara and embroidered satin sash, 2nd Runner Up - Nicole Avalos - $200 Cash Prize, flower bouquet, tiara and embroidered satin sash, 3rd Runner Up - Karina Gutierrez - $200 Cash Prize, flower bouquet, tiara and embroidered satin sash.
All finalists, including the 2009 court, received a gift bag, including COVERGIRL makeup and various Galaxy prizes.
The Miss LA Galaxy contest was created to recognize females who are involved in their community, support community soccer and the LA Galaxy. The winner was chosen based on her poise, confidence, public speaking abilities and academic success.
