REGENSBERG, Germany - The Kansas City Wizards continued their preseason exhibition series in Germany with their second consecutive win in as many days, topping Regional Division side SSV Jahn 2000 Regensberg 2-1. Midfielder Sasha Victorine hit the scoreboard for the second straight game, and Jose Luis Burciaga Jr. netted the game-winner, one day after his three-assist performance against Nürnberg Amateurs.
After a scoreless first half, the Wizards jumped out to a quick start in the second, capitalizing on a Regensberg foul in its defensive zone. Halftime substitution Alex Zotinca stood over the Kansas City freekick out on the right flank before looping in a cross along the topped the 18-yard box. Victorine rose above the defense to meet the cross with his head and redirected it past the SSV Jahn keeper for a 1-0 Wizards lead in the 47th minute.
It appeared as if the match would end at 1-0, but with less than minutes left in regulation, Regensberg tied the match at 1-1. The Jahn midfield carried the ball up the middle of the smaller sized pitch and layed it off just inside the 8-yard box for the finish.
However, Kansas City quickly responded to the Jahn strike with what proved to be the game-winner less than one minute later. 2006 draftee Lance Watson possessed the ball in the middle of the park before eventually finding Burciaga out wide on the left flank. Burciaga collected the Watson pass and beat his defender for a clear look at the net, nearing the top corner of the penalty box, he ripped a shot across the frame and past the keeper just inside the far post to give the Wizards the eventual win.
Kansas City is now 2-0 in preseason play while in Germany, having beat 1st FC Nürnberg Amateurs 3-1 yesterday. Following three days of training the Wizards return to the game-pitch for a match against 1st FC Nürnberg's full-side on Sunday, March 19th at 10:00 a.m. local time.
