Juventus came from behind to defeat Bologna 4-1 and keep the pressure on Serie A leaders Inter Milan.
Massimo Mutarelli put Bologna ahead in the 24th minute, but a dominant second-half display from the Bianconeri gave them all three points.
Hasan Salihimidzic equalized in the 49th minute before Sebastian Giovinco put them ahead in the 71st.
A brace from Del Piero in the 75th and 88th minutes sealed a win which takes Juve just four points behind Inter, who face Fiorentina.
Juve showed no signs of tiredness after their midweek Champions League exit to Chelsea as they set about keeping their hopes of winning the Scudetto alive.
But it was Bologna who stunned them by going ahead with their first attack in the 24th minute with Mutarelli threading the ball through the legs of Juve goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon after being found by an intelligent reverse ball from Marco Di Vaio.
The home side had only one chance to equalize in the first half when Del Piero hit Giovinco's cross with his shoulder rather than his head in the 39th minute.
The game came to life in the second half, thanks mainly to the tireless work of Giovinco.
His corner set Salihamidzic up for the equaliser in the 49th minute, the Bosnian heading beyond Francesco Antonioli into the far corner.
The Bologna defence could not control Giovinco, who had shown glimpses of his skill against Chelsea, but this could be the game in which the Italy Under-21 international really came of age.
Antonioli denied him as he pierced through two Bologna defenders with his blistering pace in the 51st minute.
He then set up Del Piero for a volley which only a reflex save from Antonioli could prevent from going in at his near post.
It was not all Juve, though, and Di Vaio tested Buffon at the other end.
A cross from Adailton then tempted Di Vaio, who was just an inch short of meeting it in front of goal.
But Juve finally managed to go ahead with man of the match Giovinco getting the luck he deserved in the 72nd minute.
All three Juve strikers combined, with Del Piero sending the ball into Vincenzo Iaquinta, who laid it off for Giovinco to slice it past Antonioli.
Del Piero got in on the act three minutes later with the first of his two goals, both of which came from deliveries from Salihamidzic.
He received the Bosnian's through ball, shuffled past Claudio Terzi and placed the ball into the bottom corner.
The same combination provided the same result in the 88th minute when Del Piero beat Antonioli at the second attempt.
There was even time for Del Piero to miss his hat-trick by hitting the post and Juve coach Claudio Ranieri took both Giovinco and Del Piero off to a standing ovation.
