Andre Schmid of St. John's, a Sacramento native was Houston's third round pick. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound striker was a fifth-year senior in 2005 after a knee injury cut short his 2003 season. In 2004, Schmid was named Second Team All Big-East.
In keeping with its West Coast strategy, Houston finished off its draft strategy by selecting the University of Washington's Mike Chabala with the 44th overall pick. Chabala ended his Husky career this fall, earning NSCAA and Soccer Times Third Team All-America honors. In 2005, Chabala was a First Team All-Region selection and a two-time Second Team All-Pac-10 honoree. He finished his career at Washington with 26 career points on five goals and 16 assists.
