HOUSTON, TX - Houston gets its first taste of Major League Soccer on opening weekend when the Colorado Rapids visit recently renovated Robertson Stadium on April 2.
Major League Soccer, together with the ABC and ESPN2, today unveiled its 2006 schedule and national television broadcasts for the League's 11th season.</p>
Houston 1836 will play a total of 32 matches beginning April 2. The new Houston soccer franchise will play four games against each of its five conference foes (Colorado Rapids, Chivas USA, LA Galaxy, FC Dallas, and Real Salt Lake); and two against each of its six non-conference opponents (Kansas City Wizards, D.C. United, New England Revolution, MetroStars, Columbus Crew, and Chicago Fire).
Therefore, fans that do not travel to away games will have two chances to root against each of their conference rivals and just one opportunity to see in person the star players from the other conference.
Houston 1836 will play its key rival FC Dallas a total a four times, beginning on May 6 with a home game, and will face their Texas rival last on September 2.
