Germany eased into their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign by hammering six goals past Liechtenstein in Vaduz.
Lukas Podolski scored the only goal of a tight first half in the 21st minute, but when he netted three minutes after the break the floodgates opened.
As Liechtenstein's heads dropped, Simon Rolfes and Bastian Schweinsteiger struck in the space of two minutes, before Thomas Hitzlsperger added a fifth 15 minutes from time. Heiko Westermann completed the rout in the 86th minute.
Germany coach Joachim Low named the same team which defeated Belgium 2-0 in a friendly last month, meaning Serdar Tasci picked up only his second cap at the heart of the defence.
He and Schalke full-back Westermann kept out Real Madrid defender Christoph Metzelder, who had to settle for a place on the bench in Germany's second game since the Euro 2008 final.
Piotr Trochowski was also selected in the attacking midfield position and he combined well with Miroslav Klose for the first chance of the game in the fourth minute, however his shot was too close to Liechtenstein goalkeeper Peter Jehle, who made an easy save.
Schweinsteiger was the next to breach a well-drilled defence with a shot which Jehle pushed past the post with his fingertips.
There was nothing the Liechtenstein custodian could do to prevent Podolski from opening the scoring in the 21st minute.
Trochowski, who was at the centre of every positive move for Germany, laid the ball off to the Bayern Munich striker, who rifled a shot low into the bottom right-hand corner from just inside the penalty area.
Klose's form for club and country has been worrying of late and his lack of confidence was highlighted in the 35th minute when he missed the chance to double Germany's advantage, placing his shot wide from 10 yards.
Podolski, on the other hand, is experiencing a golden run for Germany and he scored his second early in the second half.
Again, it was Trochowski who did all the dirty work to create the opportunity which Podolski took coolly, placing his shot high into the corner of Jehle's goal.
He almost completed his hat-trick moments later as his volley whistled just wide of the post as Germany moved up a gear.
Mario Gomez replaced Klose to add more firepower to the attack and, within moments of the change, Rolfes netted Germany's third with a fine volley from 10 yards in the 65th minute.
Liechtenstein had barely restarted the game when they were four down.
Schweinsteiger took advantage of a misplaced header to bear down on Jehle and chip the ball into the back of the net to put the result beyond any doubt.
There was still time for Hitzlsperger to show the strength in his left foot with the fifth goal in the 76th minute while Kevin Kuranyi had a goal disallowed for offside before Westerman netted his first international goal four minutes from the end.
