Free agent Conor O'Brien fielding offers from Denmark, Belgium, and Austria

Conor O'Brien celebrates a goal for Wiener Neustadt

AMSTERDAM – Conor O'Brien, a free agent and Wiener Neustadt midfield ace, might soon be fielding offers from his old stomping grounds in the Danish Superliga, MLSsoccer.com has learned. More rival offers might come from Austria and Belgium, too.

Earlier in his career, the 26-year-old New York native, scored nine goals in 83 Danish league and cup matches for FC Nordsjaelland, Odense BK and SönderjyskE. But this past Wednesdsay, he ran out of contract with Wiener Neustadt, a recently demoted Austrain team.

Now O'Brien is on vacation back in the States, and his agent is busy fielding calls. "There's interest back in Denmark, in Belgium and in Austria, of course," O'Brien's rep, Allan Bak Jensen, confirmed to MLSsoccer.com.

Until now, the lines between O'Brien and Major League Soccer have remained quiet, but Jensen says the midfielder would certainly be willing to listen to proposals from back home in America.

"It could be an option, but I think he would rather stay in Europe right now," said the agent. "However, any offer that provides the right fit is welcome."

Last season, O'Brien notched four goals and two assists in 29 Austrian Bundesliga matches for Wiener Neustadt. He led all American players based in European top flights with 31 chances created, while adding a team-best 88 pass interceptions and 59 tackles.
