Earthquakes ink FW Gordon to new deal

San Jose signed forward Alan Gordon to a new deal

The San Jose Earthquakes didn’t have to go far for their fifth signing of the offseason.

On Wednesday, the club announced it has signed big target forward Alan Gordon to a new contract. Per league and team policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We’re looking forward to seeing Alan fully fit and back in the squad,” head coach Frank Yallop said ina club statement. “Both his ability on the field and his experience in this league will be an asset to our team next season.”

San Jose, who in 2011 finished seventh in the Western Conference and failed to make the MLS Cup Playoffs just a season removed from an Eastern Conference Championship appearance, will hope Gordon can ease the goal-scoring load for forward Chris Wondolowski in what will be his first full season with the club.

Gordon, 30, appeared in just two contests for San Jose after arriving in a midseason trade from Toronto, scoring just one goal for the Quakes before surgery to repair a torn rectus abdominis and tears in his left and right hip adductors sidelined him for the rest of the campaign.

The eight-year MLS veteran has scored 22 goals in 118 career MLS appearances for four different clubs.
