we gotta stick together. Some of the following subject lines in e-mail responses, from males, were less than appreciated:
"Long Live the Queen"
"Hail To the Queen"
"Queen In, Tino Out"
"Let Her Write Every Week"
She had one lucky week, let's not get carried away. Besides she doesn't have time to write the column every week, she has to concentrate on her full time job ... overcooking meat, spending money like its going out of style and just like in Lost - making sure 108 minutes don't go by without busting my chops.
TCS PERSON OF THE WEEK:
Every week we're going to pick one person to give a little love, a little special recognition for doing something to really stand out. Could be a player, coach, broadcaster, you name it. Sometimes we may even have to venture outside of the soccer world. Feel free to e-mail in with your nominations.
Has there ever been any better gossip surrounding an MLS team since Dietrich Mateschitz bought the club? The Ronaldo rumors are always swirling, and if you believe what you read in the New York Post (insert your own joke here, New Yorkers), Juventus gaffer Fabio Capello may get offered a coaching or technical director gig with RBNY.
Love it. Now I know reports in the last day or so have rubbished the rumors, but I just love the energy being created by Red Bull. Wow, that play on words is a bookable offense. The Post also says that Mo Johnston could be safe as head coach if Capello takes the technical director job. I think we all know differently.
GRAB A COLD BUD (OR AQUAFINA) AND PUT YER FEET UP:
WHAT I'LL BE WATCHING:
REAL vs MILE HIGH CLUB - 4 p.m. ET on The Deuce: Don't look now but RSL has won two in a row, sending the buzzards flying away from John Ellinger's head (you can find them here on Planet LA over Steve Sampson). And if you look at their results, you'll see that outside of the first match, all of Real's losses have been by just a goal. Translation: maybe things aren't so dire in Checkettsville after all.
CHIVAS vs FIRE - 11 p.m. ET on Direct Kick and MLSLIVE.TV: If I were an objective journalist, I would write that you have to give Dave Sarachan and the Chicago Fire loads of credit for dropping just one match in their first seven road games. It really is a wonderful run. Plus, my stepdad just drove by the new stadium the other day in between rounds of golf and said it looked great. But since I am not anything resembling objective, I'll add that I can't wait to see them lose their home opener, go in the tank, and miss out on the playoffs entirely.
FLICK-ONS:
Dynamo gaffer Dominic Kinnear, telling it like it is about summer day games in Houston: "Whoever schedules these games, I want to have him come down to Houston and run on the field for 60 minutes and tell me if he thinks it is such a great idea."
Snuck into the American Idol finale out here on Planet LA last week. Second best moment: when fellow Minnesotan Prince took the stage. Best moment: seeing David Hasselhoff at the post-show party stop in front of a mirror, look at himself, then put away one set of dorky glasses and put on another pair. Just remember - he already is today what The Bruce is hoping Gooch will be next month -- huge in Germany.
All right, Hoops faithful, what do we think about Amado Guevara? I'm inclined not to shake things up right now, but he is a special player. If they wanted to dump him for not a lot, hmmm ...
